Judicial applicant eligibility requirements

Read time: 6 minutes

Applicants seeking judicial appointment in Connecticut must meet specific eligibility requirements.

To apply, you must:

  • Be a member of the Connecticut bar
  • Be a registered voter
  • Be a resident of Connecticut

Connecticut law also establishes age requirements for judges. Judges are subject to retirement at age 70.

Meeting these requirements does not guarantee appointment. Judicial Selection Commission (JSC) reviews candidates as part of Connecticut’s judicial selection process. The Commission evaluates candidates under applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.

Review current requirements before applying. Eligibility requirements may change over time.
