Apply for appointment, reappointment, or elevation

The Judicial Selection Commission (JSC) reviews applications from attorneys seeking judicial appointment and current judges seeking reappointment or elevation. We offer forms and resources for the above judicial processes. These may include financial disclosures, authorization forms, and other records.

Applicants for new judicial appointment must be a member of the Connecticut bar, a resident of the State of Connecticut, and a registered voter in the State of Connecticut.

Judicial appointment

Fill out the required forms and supporting documents. Mail or deliver the application materials in person.
 

Judicial reappointment

Judges who want to be reappointed go through a review process. Interviews are held in the seventh year of an eight-year term.
 

Judicial elevation

Judges can apply to move to a higher court. Their options are the Appellate Court, Supreme Court, or the position of Chief Justice.
