• State-Federal Settlement Reached with Opioid Treatment Provider to Resolve Medicaid Overpayment Claim Allegations

  A Connecticut healthcare organization and its chief executive officer have reached an $883,859 settlement with the state of Connecticut and the federal government to resolve allegations that the company submitted improper claims for payment to Connecticut's Medicaid program, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said today.

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull today announced that Connecticut is joining with 49 other states and the District of Columbia in a $13.5 million settlement with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to resolve allegations that it engaged in off-label marketing and made deceptive and misleading representations in its promotion of four prescription drugs.

Bremby today announced that Connecticut has joined with other states and the federal government in a settlement with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to resolve allegations of off-label marketing of the immunosuppressive drug, Rapamune.

  Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that, under a settlement with state attorneys general, Volkswagen will pay more than $570 million for violating state laws prohibiting unfair or deceptive trade practices by marketing, selling and leasing certain diesel vehicles equipped with illegal and undisclosed emissions defeat devices designed to circumvent emissions standards.

  A Winsted dentist and his practice were ordered to pay $717,046 in restitution and civil penalties after a Superior Court judge found his conduct violated the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act, also known as CUTPA, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that – as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat the misuse of opioids – 80,000 drug deactivation kits capable of safely disposing unused prescription medications have been donated to the State of Connecticut and are now available free-of-charge to residents at over 600 pharmacies throughout the state. The biodegradable Deterra drug disposal kits were donated by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and can deactivate and destroy up to 45 pills each simply by adding warm tap water and then disposing the kit in the trash.

  Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill and Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that during Fiscal Year 2014, a joint effort by their offices resulted in the collection of more than $1.6 million in penalties from out-of-state companies operating in Connecticut without legal authority to transact business.
